Fun Monday: the "Look, Ma! I made it myself!" edition

Our lovely hostess for Fun Monday this week is none other than the charismatic Karisma, who seems to like it when we do things with our own two hands.

As evidenced by her challenge today:

I would like to see or hear about things you have made with your own two hands (or feet, Im not fussy!) We all have different talents and abilities, maybe you like to sew or knit, chisel or sculpt, draw or paint? Whatever your talent is, please share it with us this week.
Oooh, handmade stuff.

Uh. Well. Um. Gee, I -- uh -- well ... I am so NOT the craft mom. Everyone knows to STAY AWAY FROM THE MAMA when it comes to do-it-yourself and school art projects.

But long ago (in a galaxy far, far away), I took a pottery class. Yes, I did. I threw clay on a wheel and MADE STUFF! Never mind that I was in college -- back when dinosaurs roamed the earth.

Anyway, here was my piece de resistance -- a pot, still used to hold pencils, etc., to this very day. Now, by way of excuse explanation, let me tell you that the color did NOT look like that when I put it on my masterpiece. It was more golden. But it ... uh ... kinda turned that nasty shade of baby poop in the firing process. I was majorly disappointed, but that did not stop me from saving it for posterity.

Even in the face of some mild desecration ...

I saved it.

In the face of two cross-country moves and endless changes of residence locally ...

I saved it.

After all, I signed the bottom, for heaven's sake!

(Yes, I blurred out most of it. What? You think I've lost my mind??)

Why, this baby is practically an ANTIQUE!!!! After all, it is older than any of my children, has lived through three marriages and will celebrate its 37th birthday this summer!

Sometimes I kid around that I have shoes older than some of my friends. But in this case, it's more true than not.

I have a pencil pot that's probably older than many of you!

I'm sure there are Fun Monday players this week who are far far FAR more creative than me.

So what the heck are you still doing here, gaping at my pathetic excuse for a post? Go visit them!!

So Can I have it? Just kiddin' Well done! You certainly rose to the challenge, which I know was hard for you! Thank you! Hugs xxxx

Janet if you ever take up pottery making again will you make me a pot like this? Just kidding--one time effort and all that. But I do love it, especially the baby poop colors and it's little round belly.

I'm laughing at the 'baby poop' colour but I actually like it! I would be very proud if I had made a pot like that :)

I love it! It's not poop colored. It's an amber brown. You have talent, dear.

I like the colors! They're some of my favorite. Dh calls one of those colors (or one very close to it) "turkey shit". Turkey shit looks rather good on me and I wear it a lot, LOL. I'll be 37 next month, too.

Baby poop?!!!! Well, it depends. I've seen poop in my day with feeding the kids strained carrots...and well, you figure it out. The color certainly wasn't brown!

I LOVE this work!!

Happy Fun Monday.

That looks great! I don't see baby poop at all...just a lovely striped pot!! Wonderful!

At 37 it probably IS an antique. And signed brings the price up. And when you're dead, the value goes up yet again I hear. A real little gem I would say :o)

I have a piece of pottery that I made in high school that is 35 years old. I love it. Such good memories. I was not very talented at pottery but I enjoyed it immensely. One of my favorite classes. I took it two years in a row. Yours is more lovely than mine. :D

I think it's a great pot and I really like the colors. Don't you think it's about time to go make it a child or somehing? After all, at age 37 it's clock has to be ticking!

Taking the opportunity this post provides to delurk and say....

I am still here looking at your pot because I enjoy your writing. You update everyday and I read everyday just to see whats going on with you and you never fail to enertain.

Roogirl broke her arm the same week my 10yo broke her ankle and they both had blue casts..silly I know, but it made me smile.

fwiw I am older than the pot and I love the colors very earthy.

Janet I love that pot. I was expecting one made with swirls of clay but that is like a proper pot. I'm impressed, and baby poop? LOL, I was thinking more noisette, hee hee.

one of your talents is knowing the value of something.

I like the darker brown- I can't imagine it being gold colored.

I like the shape of your pot. I think the crack adds character *g*

I am 2 years older than that pot.

And like many others, I don't see the color as baby poop-like at all. I love it!

I think your pot is lovely! I've been thinking about taking a pottery class too. I have an idea of something I'd like to try.

I think it is very nice and you should save it forever. I'm serious.
I even like the color.

I rather like your pot except for the crack it would make a lovely vase for bright yellow or orange flowers. Instead like Eeyore, you have a useful pot for putting things in.

That pot is really cute! I like the colors, and I'm only two years younger than it!

Very nice :) I love that you've kept it through all of your moves and through the years. I actually like the color....Does that mean I like poop? :)

Hey I like it - it's homie

I like pot(s). :)

I once made a bulky, essentially non-functioning rolling pin in grade 8 shop class. My mom still has it. That is true mother love, folks.

That's a very nice pot and I like it!

I think it's a great color, and very well-shaped. I took a pottery class the first year of my first marriage (seems like wanting to leave the house one evening a week should have been my first clue, eh?). I LOVED it, but then we moved, and I never found another one. My first pot is now a toothpick holder because I didn't realize how much it would shrink in the kiln. My pots are mere children, 16 years old, but I'm older than your pot.
