A mother's sacrifice

There's an old joke that Jewish mothers don't let their baby boys play football or join the military.

Just for the record, none of my three sons played on the gridiron, but all of them -- when they turned 18 -- registered for the Selective Service.

This is how I commented there - edited for correctness:

I can't go to that wall. Gordon Briggs has his name on that wall. We were friends. He wanted me to go home with him - to meet his sister. He thought we would be great brothers-in-law.

We never had the chance.

Hyphen Mama sent me a rubbing from the "Movable Wall". Gordon. I'll love her to the day I die for that.

Thank you for this post, Janet.

My father came home from Vietnam and I have been grateful every single day. As you know, our oldest son, Brandon is serving in the Army - A Ranger, no less.

My heart has not been the same since the day he was born - I live in fear every day for his safety. All I want/need is for him to survive the Army.

Love to you!
